Noreuil: An Award-Winning Exhibition of History, Art & Remembrance
The Noreuil exhibition began with a question—where did Noreuil Park in Albury get its name? What followed was an extraordinary journey into a story of courage, loss, and resilience. Through deep research and artistic interpretation, this award-winning collection brings history to life, illuminating a powerful connection between past and present.
Noreuil is a small village in northern France, the site of intense World War I battles between Australian and German forces. In a hard-fought victory, Australian soldiers secured the village despite suffering devastating losses—130 men in a single day. Upon returning to Albury, they played a role in creating a new park, a space for reflection and renewal. When asked what to name it, they chose "Noreuil"—a tribute to their sacrifice, bravery, and one of their most defining battles.
This exhibition honours their legacy, transforming history into art and memory into connection.
